About Gary Butler
In pursuit of excellence
Gary was a reporter and photographer before launching into fiction writing. He soon discovered that fiction, as Mark Twain once said, has to make sense. Traveling across America and living in varied and diverse communities gave him a wealth of experiences, enabling him to give depth, nuance, and context to his rich cast of characters. His ancestral home, nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, was also the home of the Cherokee Nation, more than 100 years earlier. The Native American Blessing Way ritual spoke to Gary early in his writing career, and he renamed his road, and later his publishing company, after it. It was this ritual of "rebirth" that formed the genesis for A Misplaced Soul, his debut novel.
